We did it! We had our first trip with the Opus 4. Chris found a campground where we needed to go off roading a bit to get to — We went through three creeks and up and down some rough dirt roads but nothing too dangerous (I’m a bit of a wimp). We were the only people in the entire camp ground so we had our choice of spots. Also, the vault toilet was ‘decommissioned’ so it was a good thing no one else was there. It took a few tries to get into the spot but we finally settled in and set the camper up. So easy!
We explored the camp ground and found Ziva (our three month old Australian shepherd puppy) chewing on something suspicious. Turns out someone had hunted and then cleaned a deer or antelope right on our camp site and left the skin (and skull!) behind for us. So kind. Sorry but I didn’t take a picture of that. Maybe next time. After we set up the campsite, we got to cooking in the new kitchen. It was rad. We only made spaghetti and meatballs but it was so nice. That is, until Ziva knocked over half the pasta somehow…
We spent our two days there walking around and playing in the creek. There wasn’t too much else to do there but we had a great time. Putting away the camper was easy too! It took us about an hour and a half to break down camp completely so probably didn’t save time (versus when we tent camp) but the sleeping arrangements were much more comfortable. Here we are putting the camper back together. I do a lot of standing around and ‘supervising’.
We only saw three other cars total in the almost three days we were out there but the last day a whole bunch of UTVs were off roading while we were trying to drive out. Otherwise it was super secluded. So if you’re looking for a semi challenging to get to camp ground without any running water, toilet or cell service, Desert Creek is just the place! 🙃. Here we are going through one of the water crossings. As one of my bestie’s lame husband said, my convertible could go through that (you know who you are!!). But it felt wild and crazy to me!
All in all it was super fun. We are heading back out in two weeks to meet up with our bud Porkchop for a trip a bit further away near Idaho. Stay tuned!
